🏁 Before You Start

We’ve got a comprehensive list of instructions to help you complete all the onboarding requirements, but before we jump into that make sure you understand a few things. Indiana NAWGJ wants you to be part of the judging community and is ready to make an investment in you. As you read through the items you need to complete you’ll notice that many are marked as ‘conditionally reimbursed’.

⚠️Important: These items are marked as conditionally reimbursed because you MUST complete steps 1 through 6 BEFORE you will be reimbursed for ANY costs. Consider this carefully before you begin this process and incur costs.

Onboarding — Study Materials & Exams

Step 1: Order USA Gymnastics Women’s Program Flipchart from the USA Gymnastics Technical Materials Store 🌀 ($75 – conditionally reimbursed)

This flipchart provides the information you need to study and pass the required exams in order to judge.

Step 2: Review USAG Testing Document 📄 — focus on Important Notes and, under Required Exams, the Online Level 4/5 Compulsory Judging Exam and Optional Level 6/7/8 Course & Exam sections.

Level 4/5 Theoretical (written) – $25 (conditionally reimbursed)
Optional courses and exams will be available as of August 1st on the USAG Education --> Complete Course Catalog page:
Level 6/7 Theoretical (written) – $50 (conditionally reimbursed)
Level 8 Theoretical (written) – $50 (conditionally reimbursed)
Level 8 Practical (video) – $30 (conditionally reimbursed)

Note: All theoretical and practical exams, EXCEPT for the National Course practical exam, are now given online!

NAWGJ – $60 / $30 with code NEW JUDGE (conditionally reimbursed)

USAG – $99 (conditionally reimbursed)

NGA – $35 (conditionally reimbursed)

🛡️ Step 4: Certifications

USA Gymnastics (USAG)

Safe Sport – 🆓 Must refresh annually

Background Check – $30 (no reimbursement) – Valid 2 years

Safety & Risk Management – $75 member / $95 non-member (no reimbursement) – Valid 4 years

National Gymnastics Association (NGA)

NGA is an organization with their own code of points and athletes that we must be prepared to judge. We’ll cover this preparation later. For now, review this document to complete their abuse prevention training course and upload proof of your background check.

Abuse Prevention Training – 🆓 Repeat every 2 years

Background Check – $30 (no reimbursement) - Valid 2 years

👋🏻 Step 5: Contact the State Judging Director

Now that you have all your memberships and certifications, it’s time to contact the State Judging Director to get your GymJas profile setup - don't be shy, she's expecting your call! Also, GymJas is where you'll submit the weekends you are available to judge (aka availability) and accept contracts.

🚨Important: You MUST accept and judge one meet before you will be eligible for reimbursement of any costs.

✍🏻 Step 7: Accept a Contract & Judge a Meet

It's the final countdown! This is the last step before you can request clearance to submit your reimbursement request. Depending on the time of year, you will likely receive your first contract quickly.

💵 Step 8: Request Reimbursement

Now that you’ve completed onboarding you can request clearance to fill out the reimbursement form for the conditionally reimbursable expenses noted above.
